We Support Educators and Students

Teachers are now faced with the responsibility of mitigating myriad stresses experienced by children, including poverty, adverse childhood experiences, trauma, and the lack of parental guidance and discipline. Per the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, research suggests that approximately 25% of American children will experience at least one traumatic event by the age of 16. A child’s reactions to trauma can interfere considerably with learning and/or behavior at school (NCTSN.com).

Teachers, too, suffer from the changing needs of students. As detailed in the article “The Trauma of Teaching,” educators are experiencing secondary trauma, work-related primary trauma, personal primary trauma, and moral trauma (R. Robertson, February 8, 2024). The admirable profession of teaching is experiencing increased attrition as educators struggle to maintain composure in the classroom and to do what they were hired and inspired to do—improve the lives of youths through education.

This is where the SCHOOL Yoga & Mindfulness program is perfectly positioned to achieve a dramatic impact in realizing goals articulated by public school standards and protocols. Our signature approach to secular yoga mindfulness methods, Calm Breathing Calm Hearts, teaches K-12 students how to reset steadiness, focus, and caring attitudes.

“Children who are unable to self-regulate beyond a negative emotion have a more difficult time adapting, learning, and relating positively to others. It is of little use to our community if we produce high test-scoring students with the absence of caring hearts. I believe our schools are the places to teach basic life skills that are secular and common to being good people.”
– Kelly Wood, winner of the 2013 Yoga Activist Award from the Moksha Festival in Los Angeles
